Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship
Sharing a title of an Entrepreneur and Mother is difficult to say the very least, and there definitely isn’t a specific manual to make it work. So throw being a good mother in that mix. If only half businesses make it through, that means half of them fail. Starting a start-up company is one of the hardest things you will ever do. (talk about the start up cost, the time invested to perfect everything, time away from family etc etc etc).
Motherhood is one of the hardest things you’ll ever do. So what happens when you choose not one, but two careers doing the toughest jobs there are? A lot happens....A WHOLE LOT !!!
Accept the fact that there is no work-life balance. I’ve learned to embrace the fact that there is no family/work separation. Just like being a parent isn’t a 9-to-6 job, neither is being an entrepreneur. While I’m on the road at 6 am to my full time job , I’m also on the phone sending text messages , emails , to do lists to hubby etc, I may also be mentally planning blog posts, etc etc etc .I can't tell you how many times having an alarm , a planner and calendar has saved me. Whether it is a meeting with a vendor , or the day I have back-to-back obligations, my planner has been a lifesaver. I also have my alarm set up . That way, If I miss my calendars notification ; my alarm serves as a second reminder. My responsibilities as a mother and an entrepreneur are very clear, crisp, and easily juggled through organization. That doesn’t necessarily minimize the stress, tiredness associated with it however it makes things a lot more seamless. This journey has been frustrating to say the least ; COVID-19 didn’t make it any better . Not to mention shipment delays, miscommunication, high shipment costs, loss of money etc.
I think the first thing we can agree on is when you take on the Mompreneur path, you have officially accepted that it wont be an easy road and juggling everything perfectly is not feasible. So my answer to how do I do it is simply, “I don’t,”. I believe this approach is the most productive way for me to accomplish a day’s work. To be a good mother, it means you sometimes have to be a bad business owner. And vise versa. To be a good business owner, you sometimes have to be a bad mother. This being said, I feel you need to make up your mind of what you will prioritize. For me, it’s my kids any day over my job. This is tough, because I am a driven woman/ perfectionist. I have to peel myself away from a project to do my job as a mother. This is very hard for me, but this is where discipline comes into play

it's inevitable you’re going to make mistakes, but you’re going to learn day to day what routine works and what doesn't. Of course you'll be thrown a curve ball here and there, and you’re going to have to put your problem solving cap on and work your way around it. It's okay not to start out perfect as long as you're improving over the course of time.
And while you look like you may have it all together on the outside, it’s okay if you’re a wreck on the inside. I have been told I am a person who lands on her feet, and I believe that is you, too! Keep remembering what your priorities are, and your kids won’t be small forever. Your business will always be there, but if you are READY to fight the good fight and be a good mother and build up your business at the same time, then give her hell! And don’t ever let someone tell you you can’t or it’s impossible. Because the truth of it is, you can and it is possible—it’s just going to be tough. So fight through your tears and through the triumph and remember your dreams, build your goals, and don’t ever give up.
His grace is sufficient for us therefore nothing is impossible; the goal is to make it from the wilderness to the promise land. With prayer, support and discipline it shall already established. Mark 11:24 <3
